PERSONALITY

I recently took the Metarasa (MMDI) Personality Test. This test is a good tool to exemplify my teaching-personality. I will share my findings, which include: my personality, what motivates me, relationship information, and leadership information.

Here is a visual of my results:

The “E” suggests that I am moderately more extraverted than introverted. This means that I like to interact with people, enjoy broad topics, and tend to act first then think.

The “S” implies that I am moderately more sensing than intuition. That is to say, I like to look at facts, I take a practical approach, and I prefer clear, detailed information.

The “F” signifies that I am moderately more feeling than thinking. This represents that I like using values and have a personal, subjective view as a participant.

The “J” and “P” denotes that I have a balance between judgement and perception. This means that I like to control life and also have some flexibility.

From the report about me as an ESFJ and as ESFP:

ESFJ:

“If your personality type is ESFJ then you seek to develop harmony in relationships, and promote cooperation and teamwork. You regard the needs of others as very important, perhaps more so than your own, and seek to recognize their contributions and make them feel valued. You encourage and motivate others, engender team spirit, and try to overcome any conflict by finding common ground and ways in which people can agree” (Metarasa, 2020, part 2 of private report).

ESFP:

“If your personality type is ESFP then you are an action-oriented people person. You seek to live life to the full, and enjoy applying your people-skills (and other practical skills) to achieve a tangible benefit for people. You have a strong sense of immediacy or urgency – realizing what needs to be done now – and are probably often urging your colleagues to stop talking and get on with doing something” (Metarasa, 2020, part 2 of private report).

I found both ESFJ and ESFP to represent my personality. If you would like to try it: https://www.metarasa.com/mmdi/questionnaire/

The careers from this personality test suggest art teacher, public relations, and sales manager. These three professions are a fun blend of being a school teacher and my previous jobs!

Art teacher – A wonderful teaching profession and represents both teaching for me and my creativeness;

Public relations – I have had many jobs requiring me to have strong public relation skills, which has helped me feel comfortable working with adults and students;

Sales manager – Another job I had (selling Cutco Cutlery), which taught me many skills such as organization, communication, and a “go get it” attitude.

HOW MY PERSONALITY AFFECTS MY RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS

I form good rapports with my students as they get to know my personality. I am kind, creative, funny, and caring which appeals to many students and makes them feel safe in the classroom. One of my strongest attributes is this student-teacher connection because having a strong student-teacher connection helps me with classroom management and trying diverse differentiated lessons. For the student, a positive connection with the teacher also encourages them to express their thoughts, want to learn/work, and to be engaged more often.

Based on the quiz, my students might struggle with my teaching-style of using lots of small group work and partner work. I really encourage teamwork in the classroom and that requires everyone knowing how to work together, get along, and express their ideas/agreements/disagreements in a professional way.
